Sophia Hall is Director of Programming at Queensland Theatre. As the state theatre company, Queensland Theatre is committed to meaningful regional engagement. In 2017 and 2018, the company partnered with CIAF, CoCA, JUTE Theatre Company and Dancenorth to present MY NAME IS JIMI in Cairns and THE LONGEST MINUTE in Cairns and Townsville. THE LONGEST MINUTE tours again regionally in 2019. Accompanying these touring performances, the company offers a range of regional engagement opportunities. Further to regional touring, Queensland Theatre engages across the regions through the landmark education program, The Scene Project.
A theatre artist and producer for more than 25 years, Sophia has held positions at Ten Days on the Island, Artsource, ScreenWest, PICA, Performing Lines and Tasdance. Committed to the development of new Australian writing, Sophia served as Director of Stages WA from 2002-2007, and worked on the National Playwrights' Conference and with Yirra Yaakin Noongar Theatre. She has served on a range of industry panels including the Arts Development Panel and New Performing Arts Venue Advisory Pool (DCA); National Script Development Organisations; WA Theatre Industry Joint Vision Strategy (2006) and is currently on the Board of Directors for Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre.
