I recently left retail employment so that I can focus on developing a business based on dyeing textiles botanically, experimenting with Australian native plants (particularly those indigenous to my local area) for dyeing, and cultivating a dye garden. One consumer group I would like to target is patchworkers/quilters in part to spread awareness of the environmental impact of the textile and dye industry and create appreciation and knowledge of more sustainable fabrics and natural dyes. I am in the process of making a quilt using fabric dyed with river red gum for exhibition.
