I am a researcher
from the Centre for Social Studies from the University of Coimbra
(CES-UC), and
co-coordinator of the outreach program "Ciência Viva at CES" and of the
Methodologies Series "Wheel of Knowledge".
I have a PhD in Biology from the
University of Porto, on evolutionary biology and population genetics, but since 2009 I am also interested in the areas of Science Communication and
Non-formal Science Education. From 2016 I am working exclusively in these areas, combining biology-centered knowledge with social sciences and arts-based methods and methodologies.
My current research interests are centered in the study and
production of science communication, active learning and public
engagement in and with science (citizen science) tools about the
relations between biodiversity and human health, interlinks between
systems (natural, social, cultural) and (environmental) sustainability. I am interested in interdisciplinary approaches and methodologies
that enhance the inclusion and participation of the publics, such as
context-based education or the visual methodologies, and in mixed
methods of evaluation of the produced tools. I am particularly interested in the inclusion of younger children (3-10 years old) in the knowledge-production processes and in transformative, creative and cooperative educational practices.
