Hailing from Perth and a child of immigrants, I've seen and experienced how difficult it is to understand and work in the arts community where there are often financial, linguistic, and access barriers in place, even if they are unintentional.
Although the internet is a fantastic resource when it comes to information about arts practice / the arts community, all too often free, local resources are scarce, outdated or disorganised, making it difficult for younger people (and older ones!) to make informed decisions about what art and culture in Australia really means.
I believe that Australia is enriched by each and every one of the people who call it home, and that the role of arts and culture is to bring communities together, rather than gate-keep or be dismissive towards others. My work in events management and arts volunteering have only furthered this belief.
Currently I am the graphic designer for the UNSW publication ‘Tharunka’, and am working on an animation about ’living-in-translation’ for my honours year at UNSW Art & Design.
