Ruby Purple Profile

Brisbane based painter & wearable art creator Ruby Purple has been refining her skills as a mixed media artist since 2009. Originally studying art at school, her career path landed in customer relations and counselling, working and travelling to urban, regional and remote Australia. Purple has blended these skills bringing about the perfect marriage of her passions – caring about people, and our natural world.

‘For as long as I can remember I’ve interpreted what I see into shapes, colours, patterns and impressions, subsequently becoming an Abstract Artist. My aim to create interest, intrigue, and mindfulness, and allow the viewer to interpret the artwork’

Purple, has introduced another element into her work since her 2018 residency at Curtin Springs station in the Northern Territory by including handmade Native Australian grass papers. She finds the variations in these grasses offer incredible textures in the papers which she uses to tell her story of the diversity in Australian landscapes.

Her overall aim is to connect the greater community through art and the art making process, deliver a message to care for our natural world, and to introduce people to art as a way to represent their emotional complexities.

Purple is a seasoned artist who exhibits regularly, gives talks, demonstrations and workshops, is featured in publications locally, nationally and internationally, and has been a finalist in respected art awards including, Rotary Art Spectacular, Lethbridge 10 000, Brisbane Art Prize, Contemporary Art Awards and Top 60 Masters of Contemporary Art held in France.
