Merete Megarrity is a visual art doctorate candidate at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University and her working title is: ‘ Can you hear us? The voices of the non-human: installation sculpture in the Anthropocene.’
For several years now, her practice has been focused on art and global climate change and on how we need to shift from a human-centred to an earth-centred mindset. One prerequisite for making this shift in mindset is to be able to acknowledge oneself as intrinsically part of all living things and that our planet is a living organism with everything interconnected.
It is not only this commingling, interdependence and interconnectedness of humans and nature that she is alluding to in her sculptures but also the importance of according agency to the non-human.
