Dr Cat Dorey: Science pays the bills, art keeps me inspired

I mostly get paid as a science advisor, consulting in the field of fisheries and aquaculture. Art (and permaculture) keeps me sane and inspired by life, and I'm exploring ways to bring more of the arts into my work.

My mission is to draw together and share the best wisdom from the fields of marine ecology and conservation, permaculture & regenerative farming, social justice, and animal rights in a way that challenges and inspires people and motivates change in policies and behaviour in order to bring greater understanding and protection of all life within, and at the edges of, our oceans.

I am a partner on a performing arts project working with Artistic Director Sally Sussman from Australian Performance Exchange (APE). The project, Game of I-Lands, in collaboration with Taiwanese theatre company Performosa, explores the impact of territorial tensions in the South China Sea on its sea creatures and ecosystems.

Field Trip is an international research symposium investigating creative practice at the intersection of art, science, technology and the environment.
