Dr Amanda Roff is a musician and creative research scholar living on the traditional lands of the Taungurung people in Nagambie, Central Victoria, and the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation in Naarm/Melbourne. She completed her Honours at the University of California Berkeley studying with L-A-N-G-U-A-G-E poet Lyn Heijinian. She graduated in 2019 from La Trobe University with a PhD in English and creative writing. Her thesis focused on metaphysical aspects of music and performance through re-interpretation of Greek myth. She was included in the first Women of Letters anthology published by Penguin, and in the Duets Live Series at the Melbourne Writers Festival 2019 where she was featured in conversation with pioneering music writer and singer Vivien Goldman. She is a member of post-punk gallows-gospel outfit Harmony and is principal lyricist and vocalist for shadowy pop group Time For Dreams. Both bands have been long-listed for the Australian Music Prize. Time For Dreams’ second album Life of the Inhabitant is due to be released at the end of 2020. Her current focus is on developing forms of poetic investigation that bypass elements of conventional research.
